Introducing Local Hive Hot Honey
For years, our fans and followers have been asking us:
"When is Local Hive going to make a hot honey?"
Well, we saw the trends. We ran the numbers. We called in a few spicy favors. We sampled. We burned our tongues.
And now, we're finally ready to bring a hot honey like no other into the world: Local Hive Hot Honey.
It's a hot honey like no other because it's three hot honeys: Original, Chipotle, and Sriracha. That's right: just when everyone thought hot honey had been perfected, just as "swicy" was reaching cringe-inducing levels of popularity, we went and unleashed a whole new paradigm of flavored hot honeys.
How hot is Local Hive Hot Honey?
Naturally, that's everyone's first question when wading into spicy food territory. We don't want to scare anybody off, so we put extra effort into dialing in the heat just right.
So, how hot is it? All three Local Hive Hot Honeys are actually hot. You will definitely feel a sting. But they're not painfully hot. No one will have to dare you to try it. And no one (except the most sensitive souls out there) will be rushing to gulp down milk to cancel out the burn.
If you're a fan of the Scoville heat scale, we are talking in the range of 1,000–5,000 Scovilles. (Sorry we can't be more specific. Trade secret.) That is, they're hotter than a mild salsa, but not as hot as biting straight into a raw jalapeño.
Not so bad, right? We think we dialed in the heat exactly right for anyone from the wimpiest taste buds to the die-hard heat lovers, but if you want to play it safe, start with Original. If you want to feel the burn, go with Sriracha.
Taste the Honey, Feel the Heat
Local Hive is committed to sourcing the best tasting honeys we can find from beekeepers we trust, and that applies to hot honey, too.
In each Local Hive Hot Honey, you'll taste the rich, floral, and distinctly sweet flavor of 100% U.S. raw & unfiltered honey. It's the same honey you know and love from Local Hive, just infused with natural pepper flavor. Each hot honey is a true honey experience to savor –– until your eyes start to water.
3 Unique Sweet-Heat Flavors
Original Hot Honey: A premium take on hot honey. Its color is a golden amber, and it tastes floral and sweet, with a quick-hitting jalapeño spice. We like it on pizza, cocktails, ice cream, fried chicken, fruit salad, and anything that needs to be both sweeter and spicier. Heat level: 3/5. Taste level: 6/5.
Chipotle Hot Honey: A smoky, earthy, sweet and spicy blast of flavor in every drop. Chipotle Hot Honey keeps things interesting with a darker amber color and complex array of floral and smoky flavors. It's noticeably hotter. We love it on tacos al pastor (see above) burrito bowls, salmon filets, BBQ, and chicken thighs. Heat level: 3.5/5.
Sriracha Hot Honey: This is the sweet-heat craving you didn't know you had. It's got that Asian-style garlicky spice that makes everything way more craveable, but with the sweetness of straight-up raw & unfiltered honey. We like it on glazed chicken, spicy mayo, Brussels sprouts, dumplings, or anything else that needs a sriracha sweet-heat kick. Heat level: 4/5.
