Skincare Tips with Honey
Honey Do's
It's true: you can use honey for skincare and your beauty routine. And this isn't some crazy new TikTok trend. Honey has been used medicinally and practically for thousands of years, dating back to ancient Egypt. (#4 is straight out of Cleopatra's beauty playbook.)
Check out our favorite honey skincare tips below.
#1: Healing Honey Face Mask
A honey face mask hits the spot, including any dry or broken-out spots. Honey actually has a tiny amount of naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide that can help heal wounds and prevent infections. Check out our Honey Face Mask recipe here.
#2: Exfoliating with Honey
Raw and unfiltered honey crystallizes, while your more processed, mass produced "honey" won’t. Crystallization is normal and a sign that your honey is pure – not a sign that it’s gone bad. If you happen to have some rock-hard honey on hand, these tiny granules are just a teeny bit abrasive, making honey a perfect pore cleanser and removing dead skin cells without using any harsh chemicals.
Rub a small amount of honey between your fingers to warm it up, then rub it onto your face in small, circular motions. Leave it on for five minutes or so before massaging it off with a wet towel.
#3: Moisturizing Hands and Damaged Skin
Honey can pull in water from the surrounding air, moisturizing any skin it comes in extended contact with. Try rubbing honey into each cuticle, leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinsing it off. Or mix 1 part honey with 1 part water, then soak your hands in it for 10 minutes.
If you're recovering from a sunburn, you can use honey pretty much exactly like aloe vera: apply it to any sunburned spots and let it sit until dried. (You'll definitely want to wash it off afterwards.) Honey can help heal damaged or sunburned skin by absorbing moisture.
#4: Cleopatra's Milk & Honey Bath Soak
Legend has it that Cleopatra bathed in goat's milk and honey to maintain her famous beauty. Unless you happen to have a goat handy, we recommend coconut milk, raw & unfiltered honey, rose petals and epsom salt instead.
A warm bath with honey and coconut milk will moisten your skin more than water alone. Honey and coconut milk have naturally hydrating properties, including Vitamin C in coconut milk, that leave your skin silky smooth.
