Honey, Elevated: Local Hive Colorado Honey
Honey Facts
Like each of our 23+ Local Hive Honey varietals, Local Hive Colorado is raw, unfiltered, and made by bees and beekeepers on their own home turf. And in this case, that turf just happens to be right in our backyard — from the eastern plains to the western slopes and the Rocky Mountains — where Local Hive HQ is located.
The Flavor of the Front Range
Colorado honey is famous for its bright, delicate taste, and ours is no exception. In each bottle, you’ll find notes of alfalfa, clover, and wildflowers — the classic pollen sources that thrive in the plains of eastern Colorado. Together, they create a floral, lightly sweet profile that perfectly captures Colorado’s mountain air and sunny fields.
Every jar of Local Hive Colorado Honey is slightly unique. Since bees choose which flowers they visit, no two batches taste exactly the same — and we wouldn’t have it any other way. After all, the bees know best.
The Plants Behind the Honey
- Alfalfa: A legume in the pea family, alfalfa is prized by ranchers and bees alike. Its lavender, white or yellow blooms offer a dependable nectar source before each harvest.
- Clover: Known for enriching soil and feeding livestock, clover covers much of the Great Plains and provides honey with its signature light sweetness. Clover honey is the most common and popular honey in the U.S. — and for good reason. It's sweet without being funky or overpowering. Compare Colorado to our Local Hive Clover honey blend, and you'll note a subtle difference in floral character.
- Wildflowers: These depend entirely on the land — and the beekeeper’s instinct for finding the right spot. Moving a hive just a few miles can lead to a whole new flavor, and Colorado's diverse landscape provides plenty of room for variability. Compare to our Local Hive Wildflower honey blend to experience a more intensely 'floral' taste.
More Than 100 Years of Local Colorado Sweetness
Our Colorado roots run deep. Nearly a century ago, our founder L.R. Rice started selling local honey door-to-door. Four generations later, we still work with Colorado beekeepers to bring authentic, raw & unfiltered honey to tables across the country. But now, our operation has expanded from coast to coast — and even to a specialized organic beekeeping co-op in Brazil.
From wildflower fields to mountain meadows, every drop of Local Hive Colorado Honey captures a taste of home. It’s the same honey we grew up with — pure, local, and naturally delicious.
