Honey-Glazed Sesame Chicken

Recipes

This Honey-Glazed Sesame Chicken recipe is a perfect way to celebrate Lunar New Year – or any other night you're craving an Asian-inspired dish.

Local Hive raw & unfiltered honey (we like our Washington honey blend, but any will do) adds a rich, unique sweet flavor to the sauce. Garnish with a little sesame seed & green onion sprinkle, and you're set.

INGREDIENTS

1 tsp vegetable oil
1 tsp minced fresh garlic
1/4 cup Local Hive Honey
1/4 cup soy sauce (reduced sodium if possible)
2 TBSP ketchup
3 TBSP brown sugar
2 TBSP rice vinegar
1 TBSP toasted sesame oil
2 tsp cornstarch
2 TBSP sesame seeds
2 TBSP sliced green onions

DIRECTIONS

Heat 3 inches of oil in a deep pan to 350º.

Crack eggs and add salt & pepper to a bowl. Stir to mix.

In a separate shallow bowl, place the flour and 1/2 cup of cornstarch. Stir to mix.

Dip each piece of chicken into the egg wash, then the flour.

Add 7–8 pieces of chicken to the pan – not quite full. Cook for 5 minutes or until crispy and golden brown. Repeat with the remaining chicken. Set each piece on a paper towel-lined grate to drain.

While the chicken cooks, in a separate bowl, combine Local Hive Honey, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil and 2 teaspoons of cornstarch.

Heat a teaspoon of oil in a large pan over medium. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the honey sauce mixture and bring to a simmer. Cook for 3–4 minutes or until just thickened.

Add crispy chicken to the pan and toss to coat with sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, then serve.
