Hot Honey Glazed Brussels Sprouts
Recipes
Let's be honest: Brussels sprouts have a PR problem. For years, they've been the Thanksgiving side dish people politely put on their plates and then quietly abandon somewhere between the mashed potatoes and the dinner rolls.
And honestly? We get it. Nobody wants a bowl of soggy, bitter, overcooked little cabbages. But here's the thing: Brussels sprouts aren't the problem. HOW they're prepared is the problem. Give them a little crispy bacon, some golden-brown edges, and a generous drizzle of sweet-and-spicy hot honey, and suddenly everyone's asking for seconds. Funny how that works.
Why Brussels Sprouts Deserve a Spot on Your Thanksgiving Table
Thanksgiving is full of classics. There's the turkey, the stuffing, the mashed potatoes, the casserole that someone has been making since 1978, and approximately 14 different ways to serve potatoes.
Brussels sprouts are a natural fit for fall and winter menus, and their earthy (often bitter) flavor makes them especially good as a complement to all those other sweet, starchy sides.
The secret is the texture: getting that delicious caramelization on the outside while keeping the inside tender, not mushy. Cooking the sprouts cut-side down in a hot skillet gives them those golden, crispy edges: the mark of a true Thanksgiving try-hard.
The Sprout Savior: Hot Honey
Local Hive Hot Honey combines premium raw and unfiltered 100% U.S. honey with a little jalapeño heat. The result is a delicious balance of floral sweetness and a quick-hitting spicy kick, without a long list of unnecessary additives. That sweet-and-spicy combination is practically made for Brussels sprouts. It's the kind of flavor combination that makes you wonder why you ever ate Brussels sprouts any other way.
Not a huge spice fan? Start with one tablespoon and adjust to taste. Prefer a little more kick? Go ahead and start with at least two. We won't tell anyone if you keep the bottle on the table.

How to Make Crispy Hot Honey Brussels Sprouts with Bacon
Start by frying your bacon until it's nice and crispy. This gives you two things: delicious bacon crumbles for the finished dish and a little rendered bacon fat to help caramelize the Brussels sprouts. Waste not, want not.
Next, halve your Brussels sprouts and toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Place them cut-side down in the hot skillet and let them cook undisturbed. Resist the urge to constantly stir or flip them. That golden-brown crust isn't going to make itself.
Once the sprouts are nicely browned, flip them and continue cooking until they're tender. Finish with a generous drizzle of Local Hive Hot Honey and toss everything with the crispy bacon. That's it. No complicated sauces, no oven gymnastics, and no sad, boiled vegetables.
Tips for the Best Hot Honey Brussels Sprouts
A few simple tricks will help make sure these sprouts come out crispy, flavorful, and worthy of a spot on the Thanksgiving table.
Fresh, never frozen. You simply have to use fresh Brussels sprouts, halved. Frozen Brussels never quite get back the texture they lost to the freezer.
Keep them cut-side down. This is the secret to getting those delicious golden edges. Give them a few minutes without moving them around.
Don't skimp on the bacon. Okay, technically you can. But why would you? The smoky, salty bacon adds another layer of flavor that works beautifully with the honey.
Add the hot honey toward the end. Honey contains natural sugars that can caramelize quickly. Adding it after the sprouts have browned helps preserve its sweet-and-spicy flavor without burning it in the pan.

1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved4 slices bacon
1–2 tbsp Local Hive Hot Honey
1 tbsp olive oil
