Honey Habanero Mangonada

Recipes

Our latest, sweetest drink recipe that we're totally sipping all summer long: the Honey Habanero Mangonada.

For those who know nada about the Mangonada: it's a margarita-like cocktail, but the blend of mango and spicy seasonings give it a completely unique flavor.

This cocktail recipe takes things up another sweet-heat notch with homemade chamoy, but you can also use a blend of bottled chamoy and Local Hive Mango Habanero Honey Hot Sauce for a similar taste.

If you're not typically one to add spicy flavors to your cocktails: don't sweat the habanero in this one. Our Mango Habanero Honey Hot Sauce balances sweet and heat to add a little sting — not too much heat.

You also don't have to use a tamarind straw, but you'd be a whole lot cooler if you did. Seriously, check these things out:

Truly a work of art in a glass. Nothing says "authentic" like drinking fruit through a straw wrapped in fruit, dipped in fruit.

The Mangonada wonderfully toes the line between smoothie and alcoholic drink. (If we're judging by weight, it's mostly mango — so it's basically healthy, right?) So while this recipe calls for tequila, it's just as good as a virgin cocktail or smoothie.

Mango Habanero Mangonada Recipe

Prep time: 10 minutes

Makes 2-4 servings.

INGREDIENTS

2 limes
2 cups mango chunks, about 2 mangos
1 cup coconut water or coconut milk
1/2 cup lime juice
Local Hive Mango Habanero Honey Hot Sauce
4 TBSP jam or preserves (apricot, plum, pear, or prune is most common)
2 TBSP chili powder
2 TBSP Local Hive Honey
Salt
Tajin
Sliced mango (optional) for garnish
Tamarind straw (optional)

DIRECTIONS

1. Cover a small plate in a thin layer of tajin. Run a slice of lime along each rim, then roll the rim in the tajin. Keep glasses in the freezer until ready to mix and serve.

2. Blend together jam, 1/4 cup lime juice, 2 TBSP water, 4 TBSP Mango Habanero Honey Hot Sauce, chili powder, honey, and salt to create homemade chamoy. Pour into a jar and set aside.

3. Peel and slice mango. Blend mango slices, coconut milk, 1 TBSP lime juice, tequila and crushed ice until smooth. Add more ice until mixture reaches a drinkable consistency.

4. Pour some mango smoothie into each glass, then alternate between the chamoy and mango smoothie, ending with a small drizzle of chamoy. Garnish with a slice of mango and tajin. Enjoy!
