Homemade Honey Lip Balm

Recipes

What a time to be alive. Not only can you buy chapstick online, you can buy just the chapstick tubes online for like 18 cents each.

Magical, isn't it? Because with those empty tubes, you can make your own homemade honey lip balm for a fraction of the cost of the chapstick at the grocery store checkout.

Why make homemade honey lip balm?

If you're looking for an all-natural alternative to lip balm without any artificial thickeners, honey might just be the perfect ingredient. It's a naturally hydrating humectant, helping your skin absorb water.

"When you give honey time to do its thing, it‘ll gradually add moisture to your skin, leaving it soft and with just the right amount of shine. Even a little bit goes a long way. Just ask Kourtney Kardashian."
Plus, since you're using raw & unfiltered Local Hive Honey, your honey chapstick/lip balm will have a hint of local floral sweetness from Florida, Washington, or anywhere in between.

INGREDIENTS

3 TBSP coconut oil
1 TBSP beeswax pellets
1 tsp shea butter
5 tsp Local Hive Honey
6 to 8 drops peppermint essential oil
Chapstick tubes or lip balm tins

DIRECTIONS

1. Pour 1-2 inches of water into a large pan. Simmer over medium-low to medium heat.

2. Pour 3 TBSP coconut oil, 1 TBSP beeswax pellets, 1 TSP shea butter in a heat-resistant measuring cup.

3. Place measuring cup full of lip balm mix into simmering water.

4. Stir lip balm mix until melted, then turn heat to low. Stir in honey and a few drops of peppermint oil. Stir vigorously so the honey doesn't sink.

5. While the mix is still warm, pour into your empty chapstick tubes. You should have enough for at least 5 tubes. Let tubes cool and solidify before using. Store in a cool, dry place.
